The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) is a public entity that will henceforth be responsible for quality assurance and the oversight of the design, accreditation, implementation, assessment and certification of courses that we offer at Training Portal, as well as other private and public training providers like us.
The QCTO replaces the Sectoral Education and Training Authorities (SETA) as far as the above functions are concerned. It is important to note that the SETA’s are not replaced in their entirety and will still serve many of their current functions.
Training Portal will still be able to enrol learners until the end of June 2024 on its current SETA (now also referred to as “legacy qualifications”. As of 1 July 2024 Training Portal may only enrol learners for QCTO qualifications. Training Portal is ready for this change and already successfully applied for accreditation at the QCTO with its accreditation to be finalised before 1 July 2024.
The QCTO brought many changes to our industry, with some of them being:
- Entirely new qualifications with an emphasis on occupational alignment and entrepreneurship.
- New assessment centres where all learners need to be assessed by external assessors.
- Stronger focus on workplace alignment and evidence generation for learners.
The QCTO is currently busy transforming our industry, which will create many new opportunities for us at Training Portal, our clients, and learners alike. It is our objective to be one of the front runners in this new environment and fully embrace the changes at hand. We will write regular articles on the QCTO to keep our clients and interested parties in the know.
