Imagine a place near you where access to education, computers, internet, legal advice, and accredited training is within reach for everyone in the community. A place designed to help people develop new skills, improve their job prospects, and contribute to local growth. This is the vision behind the Community Campus Initiative by Training Portal.
Recently launched, this initiative is making a significant impact on education and training in South Africa. With five campuses already in operation and more on the horizon, Training Portal is forging strong partnerships, such as those with Usiko in Stellenbosch and HDT Academy in Harrismith.
What the Community Campus Initiative Has to Offer:
Training Portal’s Community Campuses offer a variety of resources to the communities they serve:
Digital Library
Community members have free access to a vast collection of information. They can book workstations to conduct research, prepare CVs, and search for job opportunities, thus bridging the digital divide.
Rapid Learning Courses
Free and compressed, these courses cover essential skills such as job readiness, entrepreneurship, and computer literacy. They are designed for quick and effective learning, enabling community members to gain new competencies swiftly.
Accredited Courses & Qualifications
Formal education options include full qualifications, learnerships, and short courses, often funded by Training Portal clients or the Community Campus Partners, as part of their skills development funding. These courses provide valuable credentials that enhance job prospects.
Legal Advice
In collaboration with PH Attorneys, the initiative will soon offer free legal advice through the Access to Justice service. This will provide community members with invaluable support and guidance on legal matters at no cost.
Public Workstations
Located in community hubs like libraries and high schools, these workstations provide free access to computers and the digital library. Branded as 'Training Portals', they create an environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
Safety and Management
Each campus is equipped with robust security measures, including biometric access control, a dedicated campus manager, and security, ensuring a safe and secure learning environment.
